Enjoy Gardening With Patches

Gardening teaches patience, compassion and responsibility as we watch plants slowly grow thanks to our tender care. No matter how or why you garden, this relaxing hobby is perfect for anyone willing to take the time to learn how to nurture their green thumb.

There is a plant for everyone; you just have to find the plant that suits your methods and abilities. The first step is figuring out how you enjoy gardening, whether that’s outdoors, indoors or with your community. Always remember there is no correct way to garden – the practice of caring for plants has many methods and one shared goal: to bring a little colour into the world. Let’s learn about a few of the many ways you can grow plants!

Fun Ways To Garden

The best part about gardening is that there are so many different ways to grow plants and so many different plants to grow! While the plants you grow depend on the method you use to garden, don’t let that limit you.

Try different methods this year and branch out your skills. Gardening requires practice, just like any other skill, but along the way, it also teaches important life lessons, such as compassion and the importance of routines. Here are some of the many fun and unique ways to garden!

Outdoor Gardens

Perhaps the most traditional of gardens, outdoor gardens are exposed to all the elements. This gardening is great for crops such as carrots, strawberries, corn and peas, as well as flowers, trees and shrubbery. You can use your skills in outdoor gardening to add colour to your yard and sustain your household with the food you grow. Reduce your reliance on groceries, saving your money to buy new seeds and plants! Outdoor gardens also require less watering, as you can rely on the rain to lend you a hand. Watch out for birds who might see your garden as an afternoon snack.

Community Gardens

Typically outdoors, community gardens are a great way to forge bonds with you and your neighbours as you work together to provide fresh fruit and vegetables for your community. Spending time together with your neighbours nurturing a community garden brings you closer together and establishes strong bonds that you can rely on for support.

Start a community garden today to positively impact your community, and share this patch with anyone who helps you. If you have extra food, you can even donate it to local groups to support people in need.

Grow Indoor Plants

Some plant lovers prefer to keep their plant babies indoors – and that’s valid! Not everyone has access to outdoor gardening space or wants the responsibilities that outdoor plants come with. Indoor gardening can be just as rewarding!

You can grow vegetables, fruits, and flowers all from the comfort of your home. The plants you grow are up to you, so pick whichever plants fill your heart with joy. Check your local library for books on growing different indoor plants.

We have a beautiful patch for our plant lovers, so you can share your love of plants with the world without having to take your precious plant babies out of your home!

Build A Fairy Garden

Not all gardens require a green thumb. Fairy gardens are made of tiny houses and decorations that are meant to attract fairies.

Most fairy gardens are built around the plants that already exist in your yard to provide safe shelter for fairies to live in; although fairies love it when you take the time to pick out plants, especially for them. Fairy gardens are great activities to do with children and add a splash of whimsy to your garden. Encourage your kid’s creativity by building a fairy garden together.

Try Bulb Planting

Bulbs are best planted in autumn so they can bloom in the spring. These early-rising plants bring a beautiful pop of colour to the world as it bounces back from summer. Reward yourself for all your hard work of preparing and planting bulbs this autumn with our bulb planting patch. That way you don’t have to wait all spring to see the fruit of your labour!

Go Tree Planting

Tree planting is crucial to our environment by combating the logging of forests – and no, we don’t mean planting the same type of tree repetitively. Research the native trees that live in your area and plant a diverse variety by learning about what grows in your local forests.

Trees provide much-needed homes for wild animals, and their roots hold together soil, which prevents landslides. Trees also provide shelter for plants that grow in the underbrush, fostering a more diverse ecosystem. If you or your group recently planted some more trees, our More Trees Please patch is perfect for you.

Plant A Seed!

The biggest job in gardening is planting! Whether it’s planting a seed, a grown plant or repotting a plant, actually planting flora is how you make your garden grow. Nothing compares to getting your hands covered in dirt while you tuck a plant into the earth.

Add this patch to your gardening apron for some extra plant love or to remind yourself to always plant a few seeds when you’re outside. Remember, planting seeds doesn’t stop at your own garden. Whether you’re caring for a community garden or throwing seed bombs, this patch is still for you.

Places To Put Plant Patches

The best part of patches is that you can put them almost anywhere! Plant patches are perfect for your gardening clothes, such as your apron or hat. Badges cover any rips or tears in your clothes that gardening might have caused. You can also put them on your clothes just for fun to show off your love of patches and plants. Earning patches is a great way to make memories, so why not earn some patches while gardening? If you’re gardening with a group, buy a few patches and reward everyone with a splash of colour that will never wilt!
